Galatasaray Close in on Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji

Galatasaray are on the verge of finalizing a deal with Manchester City for versatile defender Manuel Akanji.

According to renowned Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, negotiations between the two clubs have reached an advanced stage, with a verbal offer already extended to the 30-year-old Swiss international. Galatasaray are aiming to bolster their squad ahead of the Turkish Super Lig transfer deadline on September 12, 2025.

Akanji, a key figure in Manchester City’s 2022/23 Treble-winning campaign, has been a reliable presence in Pep Guardiola’s squad since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2022. Capable of playing as a centre-back or right-back, his versatility makes him an ideal target for Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk, who is keen to strengthen the team’s defence for a competitive Champions League campaign.

Akanji was an unused substitute in City’s 4-0 Premier League win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, fuelling speculation about his future.

Financial Details

Sources suggest Manchester City are open to letting Akanji leave if their valuation, reportedly around £18 million, is met, with Galatasaray’s verbal offer of £15 million sparking further discussions.

Akanji’s agent is expected to arrive in Istanbul this week to finalize negotiations, with the player’s decision pivotal to the transfer’s outcome. Galatasaray’s ambition is clear, as they also pursue City goalkeeper Ederson, signaling their intent to compete at the highest level.
