Preview and Predicted Lineup: Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace

Aston Villa host Crystal Palace at Villa Park on Sunday evening in the third week of the Premier League season. The Eagles have a fantastic record against Villa in recent times, winning four out of the five previous meetings between the two sides. The aggregate in those five matches is 16-4 to Palace. Both teams are searching for their first win of the season.

Aston Villa Overview

Although a horrid recent record against Palace, Villa's home form has been fantastic. It has now been a year unbeaten for the Villans at Villa Park. Their performances in the first two matches of the season however, have been dire. They are yet to score a goal and in both matches, there was no real attacking threat. Unai Emery will be wanting his Villa side to step up and reach the levels of performance they showcased last season.

Boubacar Kamara will miss the match through a hamstring injury, however, he could return for the next match after the international break. Amadou Onana has been ruled out of the game after sustaining a hamstring injury in a training session on Wednesday. Andres Garcia remains sidelined for a month and Ross Barkley is a doubt, but could make the bench. Ezri Konsa returns from his suspension.

My Predicted Lineup

Against both Newcastle and Brentford, Villa lacked width and pace. Starting Ian Maatsen and Donyell Malen will add what they have been missing and create a different style of attacking threat. Due to the injuries to both Kamara and Onana, captain John McGinn is likely to partner Youri Tielemans in the double pivot. This could mean new signing Evann Guessand could be in line for his first start adding to the pace of Maatsen and Malen, whilst Morgan Rogers moves back into the No 10 position. Tielemans dropping back into his favoured position will provide Villa with a lot more creativity further down the pitch and more importantly get the Belgian on the ball more. Tyrone Mings should keep his place ahead of Pau Torres, with Konsa returning alongside the Englishman.

Crystal Palace Overview

Oliver Glasner's side has drawn their first two league matches against Chelsea and Nottingham Forest. Ismalia Sarr scored the Eagles' first goal of the season and with his incredible record against Aston Villa, the Senegalese could certainly add to the tally. In his last six starts versus Villa, Sarr has scored seven goals and recorded three assists.

Palace secured their spot in the Europa Conference League last night after winning 1-0 on aggregate to Norwegian side Fredrikstad. Ahead of the match on Sunday, Palace have announced the signing of Spanish winger Yeremy Pino from Villarreal. Pino was registered in time for the game, so is eligible to play. Will Hughes could make a return after missing the game against Fredrikstad, whilst Eddie Nkeitiah and Odsonne Edouard are injured.

Marc Guehi's future continues to be a talking point, with Glasner keen on the Englishman staying. However, if a suitable offer comes in from Liverpool and Palace have a suitable replacement lined up then Guehi will likely depart.
