Preview and Predicted Lineups: Aston Villa vs Burnley

Aston Villa host Burnley on Sunday at Villa Park, for matchday seven of the Premier League. Villa got their first win in the league last weekend against Fulham and continued their form with 0-2 victory over Feyenoord on Thursday. After their awful start to the season, Unai Emery's side are finally looking like they are starting to click.

Team News

Aston Villa:

  • Emi Martínez will be assessed on Saturday regarding a calf injury he picked up in the warm-up of the Feyenoord game
  • Tyrone Mings, Youri Tielemans, Ross Barkley and Andrés García are all likely to miss the game
  • Jadon Sancho may return from his illness and Amadou Onana was called up to the Belgium squad so could feature in the squad

Burnley:

  • Connor Roberts is back in training, but likely to feature after the international break
  • Jordan Beyer and Zeki Amdouni continue to be sidelined

Aston Villa Overview

Villa are seemingly looking like they have turned the tide, having won their last three games in all competitions. Clear improvements both individually and collectively have been shown and Thursday's performance was probably the best of the season for a whole ninety minutes.

Pau Torres' passing ability was top notch as Feyenoord's very intense press meant Villa had to play through the lines. Morgan Rogers looked somewhat back to himself with his half-turns on the ball and driving forward. Whilst, John McGinn and Boubacar Kamara showed their class in the middle and from top to bottom it was a very good display.

Sunday's game is important for Villa, as after the international break they have some very difficult league fixtures. Tottenham, Manchester City, Liverpool and Bournemouth are their next four matches, so they want to be heading into them full of confidence. Burnley will be a test with their low-block that Villa have struggled with in the past, but the home crowd and continued improvements will give them a huge boost.

Predicted Lineup: Bizot, Cash, Konsa, Pau, Digne, McGinn, Kamara, Guessand, Rogers, Buendía, Watkins

Burnley Overview

The Clarets suffered a heavy defeat in their last match against Man City, which moved them down into the relegation zone. Their opening games have been tricky, facing Tottenham, Man United, Liverpool and Man City in their first six. Burnley's only win came against Sunderland and with a draw away to Nottingham Forest, they currently have four points.

Scott Parker is confident that defensive solidity at the back will return, having conceded thirteen goals already this season, the second worst in the league. Another challenge awaits them with Villa improving each match, so Burnley will need to sure up in defence and be clinical in attack if they want to get a positive result.

Predicted Lineup: Dubravka, Walker, Laurent, Ekdal, Esteve, Hartman, Tchaouna, Cullen, Florentino, Anthony, Foster
