Nowt Grim By that Everton - decent performance at the HDS
Well well well - Grealo does it again! Tough games tonight in the League Cup, just showing how competitive this competition is. There are zero crap footy players on the professional circuit, separation is a fine margin, and they can all raise their game when asked. Mansfield showed this tonight (as did Grimsby - đ), really strong and committed efforts from the whole crew. Mansfield were good value in the first half keeping a pressing Everton at bay and disrupting the flow, whether at the start of a move or at the end of some decent pass and movement from a slick looking Everton.
Grealish again was the outstanding player, confident on the ball, innovative with his quick passing and playmaking, it was hard for the MT defence and midfield to cope with. Again the most fouled on the pitch and the most creative.
With few chances on target, Grealish brought the best out of the Mansfield keeper Liam Roberts. However, with plenty of passes and nifty footwork around the box, the pressure and persistence eventually led to the first goal from Charlie Alcaraz, who netted a deftly aimed curling right footer beyond Roberts. A fine effort indeed to break the deadlock after 50-mins.
Two assists and a lot of love for this lad tonight! đ pic.twitter.com/5mLvuOhqHb

Mansfield werenât done though and continued to take the game to Everton in an effort to eek an out an equaliser. The pressure however didnât really have any potency or end product and it was no surprise (other than how long it actually took), when Beto sealed the victory with a close range conversion from a decent passage of play.
A good result for the Blues in a very packed stadium and an atmosphere that influenced the outcome. Hats off to Mansfield and their 6000 travelling fans. They made it the night that it was and I hope they had a great night out at the HDS.
Wolves away Saturday - defo a test for the defence, how will it go? Will there be any new names on the back of Everton shirts? Letâs hope so. UTFT
